THE NIZZA DOCG: EXCELLENCE IN PIEDMONT
Amistà is part of the Associazione Produttori del Nizza (Nizza Producers Association). The group works assiduously to maintain and develop the high standards for the production of Nizza DOCG, a wine considered to be the greatest expression of the Barbera grape. Here is a little history:
2000-2007
The Nizza subzone for the production of Barbera d’Asti DOC Superiore is officially recognized in 2000.
2008-2013
In 2008, Barbera d’Asti is elevated from DOC to DOCG status.
2014
The Nizza DOCG is created as its own appellation. The name Nizza symbolizes not only the the Barbera grape in its greatest expression. But it also embodies the place itself and its winemaking traditions.
Nizza DOCG can only be produced in a district comprised of 18 communes in Monferrato. And it must be vinified in strict accordance with the appellation’s high standards for production.
